Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the forthcoming animated feature.
Following up on the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the outer limits of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
Much like the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, such as the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.
However, it seems Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The feature will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is scheduled to arrive close to the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
