Labuschagne Omitted from Australian One-Day International Team Versus Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise inclusion.

Recent Form Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI squad after scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now work towards a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia seek a solution to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.
